Then the People for the Ethical Treatment of I d i o t s (PETI) could described the tradition as a c r u e l event [in which] a live OPETA person is suspended above a r a u c o u s crowd in a Plexiglas box for hours before being "dropped" about 40 feet in a r e d n e c k variation of New York City's Times Square ball drop.
After all; in this age animals, reptiles and fish are more important than humans.

Leslie:Au Contraire - I love animals; however, I believe people come first which PETA just doesn't seem to get.
Vasiasila:Nice bit of local color. Anyone who has spent any real time in NC would admit the traditions and humor grow on you, not to mention the food and nice folks.
I didn't see PETA at the National Finals Rodeo but I'm sure they were there. I imagine they knew to keep to themselves and not get too mouthy with the cowboys. That probably wouldn't end well... for PETA.
MOHAMAD REZA:I fail to see any difference between possums exploding on the open road or in caged plexiglass.
Zilbermanur:This "save the possum thing" probably angers Obama because he always likes a scoop of boiled possum to go along with his Chitlin's and cornbread.
